At the end of the May, we attended Clerkenwell design week, which has held seventh time.

Clerkenwell is part of London, which has a long and rich history. There were located monastic orders, brothels, became famous as a fashion, industrial and Italian district, recreational area of richer society where used to come Oliver Cromwell. There were three prisons and it was also the place connected with political radicalism – he operated Vladimir Lenin and was meeting Communist Party. Here was concentrating craft peak – wasn´t missing watches and clocks production and was born the oldest European printing company Witherbys.
After World War II, Clerkenwell again began to change fo industrial area and gradually it became the most famous London borough with the densest concentration of architectural and designer facilities in the world.
It would be strange if Clerkenwell wouldn´t have its design event that would worthily presented the hallmark of this place. Spaceplan had the opportunity to participate on the 7th Clerkenwell design week and enjoy the atmosphere of the place and meet new people and gain new contacts. We were invited by our partner Interface, which is a leader in the design and ecology of carpets, which are producing by fishing nets recyclation.

Clerkenwell Design Week took place from 24 to 26 May and during this time we had the opportunity to learn a lot about the trends in the field of floors and technologies of Interface, but also to visit the installations, showrooms and exhibitions the event. The specialty of our host was sightseeing tour of London with the architect, who told us a lot about the architecture and history of the most famous places.

We experienced rich program of the event at several major locations, where was concentrated its happening. There was almost 90 showrooms and among them we find also our main partner Actiu. Another was exhibition of established product brands, which have been exhibited at many historic spots of Clerkenwell.

Young designers and studios which operat maximum five years also got a place in the spaces, which gave an opportunity to excel their product. Rent a space for newcomers was lower, which was a welcome step towards the young, promising designers. In the another pavilion were exhibited leading design brands with their products. There also wasn´t missing The British pavilion with one of the best design in the world at all.

They thought on the special category of lighting and therefore lamps have been given two places of exhibition. Organizers decided also cover additional exhibition of design products from bags to ceramics. As part of design Week could not miss or installations, or events which took place directly on the streets of Clerkenwell, or in the cultural stalls.
87 showrooms, 340 exhibitors and over 36 thousand visitors to this year appeared on Clerkenwellskom desing week-in, where we have experienced a fascinating and unique atmosphere of world design scene right at the Mecca - in London. We believe that the next years will bring fresh wind of inspiration, sustainability and especially quality design.
